Drawing Workshop in July 2018
Day of Drawing
"To live is to leave traces" Walter Benjamin, Reflections
Saturday 14 July 2018 10.30-3.00
£55 to include tuition, materials, refreshments and a 2-course lunch.
Located deep within the rural Ryburn Valley in the village of Mill Bank, with beautiful views across the fields towards the end of Fiddle Wood. We will base our drawing course in the conservatory of Café Mill Bank, which has fantastic light and access to the outdoors (weather permitting).
Taking our inspiration from the landscape (this can be natural forms and/or architectural structures), we will initially explore line, proportion, form, tone and texture, in small studies. I will be introducing you to working on a range of different surfaces – developing interesting grounds upon which to draw. After lunch, we will work on larger scale drawings, developing technique and creating more sustained pieces using techniques practiced earlier in the day.
I am often asked if 'non-drawers' can be taught to draw and the answer is yes, definitely! During my teaching career, I have been very fortunate to continue my professional development through work, attending art courses to build upon my own skills base - and trained artists really love the opportunity to be put in a room with materials and let loose to create! Hence, the course is open to all abilities, whether you are an experienced artist or novice beginner, and teaching will be differentiated to accommodate all levels. The day is an opportunity for you to learn new techniques, put into practice their drawing skills, working alongside others in a supportive and positive environment. Tea, fresh coffee and pastries will be served on arrival, and there will be a delicious 2-course home-cooked lunch provided by Café Mill Bank (dietary requirements will be catered for – please note this on the application form below).
We will be working on mostly A3 paper, and all drawing materials will be provided. However, if you have your own drawing board and easel, please bring them along as this would help enormously if we wish to work outside in the garden for some of the day (Yorkshire weather permitting). There will a raffle held on the day, an opportunity to win a signed print of one of my paintings.
Places are limited to 12 participants.
To register interest, please complete this form, adding any dietary requirements in the message box below. A £25 deposit will be requested to secure your place, and the remainder to be settled one week prior to the course.
